Remodeling Turning Out To Be More Involved Than I Thought

You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men -- I never would have guessed my plans to remodel my blog would become so involved!

I've been blogging for over 6 years now (the first year or so with a different blogging host) and there are still so many things I feel like I don't know. It's a feeling that leaves me very unsatisfied about myself and what I have accomplished.

My original intentions for remodeling my blog were merely aesthetic, although I did have the feeling there were some technical issues begging to be addressed. As I researched and compared other blogs I began to question many more aspects of how I have been running my blog.

For one, my niche. I don't know how many times I have bemoaned my lack of direction with my blog. Of all the advice I have read about the proper way to run a blog, finding a satisfying niche is at the top. My problem has not been in finding a niche but in defining it. I think I have finally done that. (Soon I will post a great unveiling where I will reveal the conclusions to all my plans so keep on the lookout!)

Another aspect would have to be whether or not I am satisfied with the limited control I have of my blog with BlogSpot. I like control. It sounds so dreadful and power-hungry, but when it comes to personal projects -- when I have a dream for something -- I want to be able to make my dream come true. And this is in regards to template design in this case. BlogSpot's template and design limitations throws a kink into my plans.

Which has caused me to look into I have not come to any conclusions and will therefore say no more. I have a lot to consider.

Because of my research I have a better idea of what I want my blog to become. I finally have a clear vision, I am happy to say. My impatience often causes me to become uneasy about things that eventually come about on their own. It is a lesson I am trying to learn. My quote for myself is, "Leave it in God's hands and He will solve my problems for me." I know this to be true -- He has shown me this very thing so many times -- and yet I must remind myself of this time and again.

As for design, I have finally decided on a color scheme that I like (see Time for a Remodel to read about my ideas). What's more, I have a banner design in mind that I am hoping will turn out beautifully and be much more graphically appealing than the one I have now. (If you are reading this in the future, after I have remodeled, see previous link for an example of the old look).

I was inspired by an artist with a whimsical style named Laura Uy .  I discovered her work from another great artist, Stephanie at All About Ami, when she featured Laura's work in a Craft Chat post. Stephanie herself has inspired me in so many ways with her talent for charming crochet. Her blog is an invaluable resource I always return to.

But unfortunately, before I can move ahead with any of this, I must decide upon a new blog name. Believe me when I say I have stressed over this for weeks! My family is tired of my brainstorming and begging for assistance, I am sure. It is just so hard to come up with something that I know I will be happy with in years to come. It has to be fun but not too quirky. It has to be easy to spell and simple enough to remember but not boring and unremarkable. It has to reflect me and what I do here without being vague or too obvious. Added to that is the fact that I am hard to please and I don't make decisions well.

Do you see what I am up against?

Fortunately --  and I say this guardedly -- I have a few ideas that might just be on the right track. We'll see if I feel good about them tomorrow.

Hopefully next time you return I will have a very happy surprise for you!

In the meantime, let me know what you think. Have you been where I am before? What advice would you give me? What is your opinion on these topics? I would love to hear from you! Thanks for reading.
