Though my sleep masks over the years consisted of a pillow or an arm, I couldn’t resist designing these.

I went for kawaii-inspired features, using the cute eyes and pink cheeks. These sleep masks really are quite simplistic!

Designing the basic shape of the sleep masks were the real crochet challenge, but thankfully it turned out pretty easy. I had to rip it a few times to get the mask long enough, but I got the shaping in one try (don’t you just love it when that happens?!).

I can see these being great gifts for a little girls sleepover birthday party! Here’s the free pattern:

Stitching the Eyes
Use a long strand of black yarn and stitch eyes, using the picture for reference. Stitch about 4 stitches for the unicorn eyes, and 5 eyelashes from the points where the stitches meet. Stitch 4 stitches for the cat with double strands of yarn.

Tip: To align the eyes before stitching, take a strand of yarn and lay across the mask where you want the eyes to be. Use stitch markers to mark points where the eye ends and how far down or up it comes.

Felt Ears and Cheeks
For the ears, take one of the ears and outline it on paper. Sketch a smaller triangle inside to represent the pink. Cut out the smaller triangle and use as a template for cutting out in pink felt. Also, sketch a small oval and cut it out to use as a template for the cheeks in pink felt. Glue felt to masks.

Bow (for Cat)
Tie a bow and glue to cat.

Ties
To put ties on the mask, cut 2 strands of yarn measuring 32 inches (gray for the cat and white for the unicorn). With the yarn needle, thread 1 strand of yarn through the side of the mask and pull halfway through. Do the same with the other side.

Because the stitching shows behind the mask, I also thought sewing a soft fabric to the back would be a great idea!
